APPRAISAL TIME! (beginning 11/17/25 thru 1/5/26)

Congratulations, NEXTing Community! We've completed —55 weeks—of NEXTing Notes, filled with insights from the book and thought-provoking questions designed to inspire self-reflection. We hope you found these notes engaging and gained strategies and strength for navigating change and making important transitions on your life’s journey.

Now, we invite you to join the appraisal phase: reflect on your experiences, then connect with the group to share how the book and notes have impacted your life and influenced your journey. If you have any questions about NEXTing, feel free to post them—Dr. Tim will be happy to address them in our new 2026 group format.

Stay tuned for updates on your questions and upcoming NEXTing events.

NEXTing Note (11/10/25)

NEXTing begins with a decision rooted in discipline. Through mental and emotional discipline, you can develop healthy habits, self-control, and focus—essential components for carrying out the NEXTing strategy. Have you fully committed to expecting, embracing, and experiencing God's plans (NEXT) for your future, both near and far?

I haven’t fully committed yet, but I’m definitely working on it. Learning to be more disciplined in my thoughts and emotions so I can really lean into what God has next for me.

You must process before you progress. Processing helps you prepare and reconcile the profound changes that push you into a new life, a new self, and a new dimension of growth. Have you developed the habit of processing change so that your transitions lead to progress or growth?

I’m still working on this, honestly. When things change, my first instinct is to just keep moving instead of really sitting with it. Lately I’ve been trying to slow down and actually process what’s happening—like, “okay, what is this shift trying to show me?” It’s not perfect, but I’m learning that when I take time to reflect, the transition feels a lot smoother. Still growing through it.

NEXTing involves "threshold work," which refers to evaluating changes before moving forward into new situations. This process includes considering what is appropriate to retain and what should be left behind when transitioning into new settings. Do you tend to disregard "threshold work" and hope that the results will be tolerable?

Yes!… NEXTing is cute until you realize you can’t just drag all your old stuff into a new season. 😂 That “threshold work” is that moment where you gotta check yourself and say, “Okay now, what’s coming with me and what needs to stay right here?”

I’ve definitely tried to skip that part before — rushing into the next thing like, “Eh, I’ll figure it out later.” But whew… later will have you realizing you packed way more than you needed. And that extra weight… it slows you down every time.

NEXTing Note (10/20/25)

In NEXTing, a purposeful pause is not a period of no progress; there is still progress and transformation taking place inside of you and even around you that will impact your next. Can you recognize the purposeful pauses along your journey -- times when you didn’t realize the work that God was doing in your stillness?

NEXTing Note (10/13/25)

God does not want you to live in your pain; He wants you to live through your pain. Do you recognize your pain points?  Does your pain ever render you immobile, unable to move into what’s next?

That’s so true. Pain can either stop you in your tracks or push you to grow—it really depends on how you deal with it. I’ve found that when you actually face what’s hurting instead of avoiding it, that’s when you start to move forward. It’s not easy, but for me that’s usually where the breakthrough happens.

What you say to yourself matters. The words or stories you tell yourself can be the difference between staying where you are and moving forward towards your next. Does your self-talk strengthen and encourage you?

NEXTing Note (09/29/25)

The truth is, we will face disappointment, discomfort, and setbacks while NEXTing. However, failing or losing in our life journey isn't the worst thing that could happen, but succeeding without experiencing transformation might be. Have you ever feared failing or losing what you have so much that you resisted change and transformation, even when it was necessary for greater gains?

NEXTing Note (09/22/25)

NEXTing as a strategy is necessary because change is not always accompanied by transition. Change is always happening around us, in spite of us, and sometimes to us or for us.  Transition happens when we acknowledge, accept, and adapt to change.  NEXTing is expecting, embracing, and experiencing change.  How do you manage change? Are you ready for what’s next?
